Without others, who are we?

Many might say and feel that being alone is all they need, that they can do without others, but for Educo Paarl the perspective is different.

Without others and the challenges or inspirations they bring, it would be hard for one to find their purpose or to be inspired.

If you disagree then that is ok and let it be so, but know that this author wouldn't be who they are without the challenges and inspiriations that came through others to truly be who they are and who you will get to know over time.

Our Story

The way forward is often unclear, yet somehow we still find a way to make it through.

When Covid- 19 came many lives were turned up-side-down, with many not knowing how to deal with the major changes and losses that came with the pandemic. For me, my life has always felt like chaos, so before the restrictions were implemented in 2020, the year had started off quite stressful for me with a change being sought after. The change led to audiobooks, listening to " A Challenge to Succeed by Jim Rohn", which inspired an urgent urge to buy two of the three books he had recommended in the motivational session. With a drive inspired by Jim Rohn and his many quotes that were all over my bed room back then I read more books in my free time, lost weight and focused on making more money and clearing my debts. The Jim Rohn method works for me with 2020 being one of the most productive years of my life with regards to personal development. My student loan and car loan got cleared which led me to finally start saving and by myself christmas present for the first time that year, but there was just something else lurking in the corner to shatter all the progress made.

The partner I thought I was with back then, broke their leg during the Christmas holiday, which added to my list of responsibilities and by the time they came out of the hospital in early March of 2021 my mother was dead by the end. When my mother died the tears would come as I tried to sleep and when I did sleep the nightmares about her death came instead. With these experiences I thought it would have been safe to share things from childhood that had been buried, but instead opening up about my experiences created a rift between the then individual and me that can never be healed. The death of the relationship and the death of my mother created a high anxiety that started my thoughts of suicide and of me leaving from Japan to return home to Jamaica.

The suicidal thoughts however came along when I went to Jamaica and then to America. In America I however, got a book as a gift from an older cousin of mine which has helped since it inspired me to start writing poetry and to write the first book, " How We Love and How We Grieve: Poems of you and me" which was published in May 2023. The book has poems about a friend of mine called "Joe", my older sister, my mother, the then partner and a few other individuals who were heavily on my mind during that emotional time to have made it into the book.

Since then I have been writing a lot more books and expanding into different genres that are all still inspired by a mutual theme of love and loss. This short reflection of how I became an author has been kept brief, but I hope you can see that there would be no story, no book, no me without the inspiration or challenge obtained from others. Therefore, I hope you can find inspiration in every challenge and a way to become content if your life feels like chaos.
